About Us

About Us:

We’re an (early) 30-something newlywed couple who previously lived and worked in Washington, D.C. After traveling through Southeast Asia for 2 weeks in 2009 we made it our goal to return for a longer trip. This blog chronicles our mission to temporarily escape the standard 9 – 5 schedule and have the adventure of a lifetime traveling between Tokyo to Mumbai. We’ve been talking about “living the dream” for nearly 2 years and now, armed with a one-way ticket to Singapore, a savings plan, and a whole lot of wanderlust, “the dream” is becoming a reality.

Katherine (AKA Mrs. Banh Mi) is a former fundraiser for a progressive non-profit. A Taurus with Gemini leanings, Kat is the details gal, editor, photographer and general bossy pants.

Dave (AKA Mr. Banh Mi) is a recovering political hack and federal government bureaucrat. He’s the guy with big dreams, relentlessly researching, planning, thinking and over-thinking

This blog is mainly a way for us to keep in touch with our family and friends back home, but we also hope that other potential career-breakers will find it a useful resource.

Destinations

We’re planning four our trip to take from 6 to 9 months. As of the day of our departure, we’re scheduled to visit Singapore, Bali and Malaysia in our first month. After that it’s anybody’s guess! In addition to those places we also plan to visit:  South Korea, Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Myanmar, and India (though not necessarily in that order). We’ll end our trip in Japan, staying with friends for an extended period of time in Tokyo.
